About This Blog
At Operand, we design and develop interactive experiences for a living. We have a somewhat unique view of what interactivity means. In brief, we think it's bigger and more expansive than most other people seem to. We define six levels of interactivity and blog about art, architecture, advertising, exhibits, and other innovations that elevate interactivity.

Polo’s QR Code Ad Campaign
Operand has designed and produced mobile shopping experiences for clients using WAP, SMS, MMS, etc so seeing QR codes on Polo’s ads makes me proud of the progress we have made, it’s a great way of connecting print and out of home with ecommerce. Here’s the way it works, Step 1: A person viewing this ad “scans” or takes a picture of the funny looking black and white graphic at the bottom right with their mobile phone. Step 2: The phone translates this symbol (barcode) into a website link driving you to a landing pages where they can buy or consume additional information about the product or advertisement. Sounds simple, but there is a catch. Not all uses have phones with this capability and for those who do (like me) it does not always work. Using my Neo Reader on my iPhone 2.0, my repeated scans did not pull up the related webpage. Stay tuned, I’ll keep working on it.
