Is video REALLY going to take over the Internet?

I just read this really interesting piece by Ian Lamont on The Industry Standard.  I’ve spoken here previously about the fact that video is NOT interactive, but is instead an inherently passive media. So I was happy to read sentences like this in Ian’s article:

Whether someone watches video on a television screen, or plays it on YouTube, video is a linear, passive experience, designed to be watched from beginning to end without alterations or input from the audience. In this sense, video is still following the model set by film in the late 19th century.

It’s always nice to find people who agree with you, especially when your ideas seem to contravene the conventional wisdom…
